Eight family members of a journalist were thrashed after his daughter objected to the beating up of cattle by her neighbour in Shantinagar locality of the district, police said on Sunday.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar Singh said the incident happened on Saturday evening and a case has been registered in this regard.
A hunt is on to nab the culprits, he added.
“Gunda Act will be slapped against the accused persons. Police teams have been constituted to nab the culprits,” the SSP said.
Police said Pragya Tiwari, the daughter of local journalist Umakant Tiwari, opposed the beating up of cattle by some people in Shantinagar locality under Kotwali police station area on Saturday evening.
Infuriated over her objection, a group of people barged into the Tiwari’s house and beat up his family members, including brother Ramakant, the police said, adding the assailants even fired in the air.
The eight injured persons are undergoing treatment in the district hospital, the police added.
The journalist’s family has lodged a complaint with police against their neighbour Rakesh Yadav, his brother Amit Yadav and six others.
